Fire
exhibition:
The recording of “Fire” was made on the train from Tbilisi to Baku, April 2009. Seeing the stamps of the Republic of Armenia on our passports, the Azeri officers rejected our entry to Azerbaijan and accused us of being American agents; collected our maps/newspapers/books, and erased the pictures they found of Armenia in our cameras. I don’t recall how, but we convinced them we were only artists, and could manage to pass the border. As the train embarked, the conductor and the hostess were aroused with anger and performed the recorded dialogue on genocide. I was exposed to their anger; however I could understand only parts of what they said…

Selling bags in public space: Caddebostan, Istanbul
2009 Video documentation: Screen projection showing the performance
Crisis is a scene set in public space, with the artist exhibiting a bunch of shopping bags on street floor and trying to sell them to the passer by. The venue is Caddebostan, İstanbul- one of the classiest shopping districts where millions of people pass and stop by the shops especially on Saturdays. Spotting a 3 square meter space in the middle of the street, the artist puts DKNY, ADIDAS, GUCCI, ZARA and more branded bags on a piece of canvas textile on the floor and starts to sell them like a street seller.

Zeytinburnu Monologues
exhibition:
+ Divercity, Warsaw, Poland http://oddat.blogspot.com/2010/09/zeytinburnu-monologues-in-poland.html
Installation: Dia projections with a speaker and headphones. 2010
Screenplay, 2008
Zeytinburnu Monologues demonstrates an urban study in two formats. The first is pictures of collapsed, emptied, ruined or demolished apartments as well as residential premises with a variety of personalized facades. The second is a narration throughout a screenplay of people talking about their surroundings. Here, slums turn into apartments, apartments ascend stories and modifications among balconies, attics, and basements take place. The space is multi layered; unique and occasional, so is the narration. Impossible to grasp all at once, we understand about the space in bits of fragmentation.
